Hollywood, CA: Cloister Press. Fine. 1931. First Edition. Booklet. Cream cardstock with two-tone pictorial cover. A remarkably beautiful copy of this legendary early book on surfing or wave riding. One of 500 copies. The author was an early pioneer of the southern California surf scene becoming known for his attempts to surf his canoe (goaded on by his brother, his first attempt failed when a wave broke the canoe in two) but more importantly his knowledge of technique and wave breaks. According to the introduction, success in bodysurfing may be obtained by, "a powerful stroke, good endurance and the absence of fear...." This early book on surfing is highly sought after by collectors of the genre and rarely will be found in better condition.
