An Historical and Statistical Account of New South Wales both as a Penal Settlement and as a British Colony.
Cochrane and McCrone, London 1834 - 2 volumes, original green cloth, age-darkened paper title-labels on spines, folding map of New South Wales with coloured county boundaries in fine condition with no marks or splits. Corners of boards rubbed and softened. Volume II re-backed using original backstrip and end-papers. Attached to front paste-down is a census abstract 1833 published by the Colonial Secretary's Office. Prelims extensively annotated in ink and pencil by someone doing some serious investigation of shipping, freight, agriculture and population - perhaps a businessman considering investment in the new colony. Loosely inserted are three sheets of summary information written in ink in a beautiful copperplate hand. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]
