Macmillan, London., 1921. Reprints in the Pocket Kipling series, de luxe issue in full limp red calf with gilt decoration to spines. Small octavo. Two volumes: pp viii, 276; [viii], 299. Illustration in first volume by J. Lockwood Kipling, W.H. Drake and P. Frenzeny and in the second volume by J. Lockwood Kipling alone. J. Lockwood Kipling was Rudyard's father.Laid in is a short Autograph Letter Signed by Rudyard Kipling and dated Tisbury, Jan. 31. 1911: about twenty words to a Miss Bell, ''Your flowers have just come in and shall be placed on his grave as you desire...'' The reference is to the burial of J. Lockwood Kipling who had died on 26th January; he and his wife are buried at the Church of St John the Baptist in Tisbury.Letter: folded; near fine. Books: pencilled ownership initials (''E.F.C.B.'') on each front free endpaper; a near-fine set.
