Taghizadeg
Condition: Very Good. (11 Jan to 11 Dec 1921). Loose binding- all pages complete. unknown signature on the first hardback cover. The New Series of Kāva was a regular monthly publication (only nos. 39-40 formed a double issue); each issue except the extra-long no. 2/12 was 16 pages in length (that count included any installment of a serial article, which was separately paginated). The following issues appeared: first year (22 January 1920-13 December 1920): issues 36-47; second year (11 January 1921-1 December 1921): issues 1-12. Throughout the first year the volume number (Jahrgang) remained consecutive with the first series (as "5"), and the masthead continued to carry a consecutive issue number (nos. 36-47). Only during the final year was the volume renumbered ("Jahrg. 2"; see Figure 1; editor's explanation, N.S. 2/1, p. 1) and the consecutive issue number reset to "1." One final issue, titled waraqa-ye fawq al-ʿāda (extra issue) and dated 30 March 1922, announced the end of the paper due to financial difficulties. Taqizāda, in a letter to a friend apparently written shortly before this, complained of those in Persia who had failed to send him even one penny of the money collected as subscriptions, compelling him to continue the costly publication of the paper for one and a half years at his own expense (M. Afšār, p. 90; Milāni, p. 506 and n. 7).

The Palestine "Agudath Netaim" (Plantation) Company Limited.
Jerusalem, Palestine, [Agudath Netaim], 1921. Lot of 3 works on the subject. Octavo. Pp. 24. Original printed wrappers, faded, bit soiled, vertical fold mark, small old ticket at top corner, small rubbed patch at back. In good condition, very good and clean interior. ~ First edition. Interesting and very rare document relating to the Jewish "Planters Association of Palestine". The first part, approved by the High Commissioner Herbert Samuel, is the Memorandum of Association. Its articles specify the objects for which the company is established as "the purchase of any lands, forests (.) and other immovable property in Palestine, Transjordania, Syria, and the Peninsula of Sinai, for the purpose of constructing, maintaining, and managing any roads, ways, railways, bridges, viaducts, harbours, telegraphs, electrical works, factories, etc. In doing so, the company will take over all the assets and liabilities of 'The Ottoman Company for Commerce and Agriculture and Industries Limited' incorporated under Turkish Law the 26th April, 1910". On the curious case of "Agendath (sic.) Netaim", which the half-Jewish Leopold Bloom spends a whole day considering, one should read with pleasure in James Joyce's "Ulysses". [TO THIS IS ADDED:] "Statuts de la Societé Ottomane de Commerce, d'Agriculture et d'Industrie." Constantinople, Ferd. Walla, 1910. 12mo. Pp. 12. Plain wrappers. In fine condition. [AND:] "Prospekt. PERSELL, Rose
Asbury Park, Avon, Ocean Grove, Red Bank, New Jersey / Brooklyn, New York, 1921. Softcover. Very Good. Oblong 12mo. Measuring 7.5 x 5.25". Contains 95 gelatin silver black and white or sepia toned photographs measuring between 3" x 2.5" and 6.75" x 4". Lacking the front and rear boards, bound by the spine with small chips and tears on the pages, good with near fine and some very good photographs with light fading and tiny chips. A woman's photo album from 1920 through 1921 from different beach towns in New Jersey including Asbury Park, Avon, Ocean Grove, and Red Bank with a few from Brooklyn, New York. The woman's name, Rose Persell, is captioned under one of her photographs and she can be seen in many of the group photographs, posing, and having fun. Most of the photographs are taken during Persell's time at the beach with friends and family. Some look rather humorous with a man standing on another's shoulders and several photos showing a man attempting to do a handstand and failing. A peculiar note of interest is that many of the girls are wearing bathing suits more synonymous with the previous decade including their regular everyday street clothes with large decorative hats and furs. Persell's family is in a few of the photographs often seen holding newborn babies and one of which shows the family next to Persell's automobile as it is seen in many pictures while she was traveling from beach to beach and to community pools. An interesting collection of leisure photographs of a young girl in the 1920s enjoying her summer with friends.

BAUM, L. Frank
Salem, Mass, New York, London: Parker Brothers, Inc., 1921. The Original Oz board Game in the Original Cardboard Box BAUM, L. Frank. The Wonderful Game of Oz. Salem, Mass, New York, London: Parker Brothers, Inc., 1921. The Original Oz board Game (board copyrighted 1921) in the original cardboard box. Top of box with a superb chromolithographed color plate showing Dorothy standing in front of the Tin Man and next to the Scarecrow. The Scarecrow is sitting on the back of the Cowardly Lion with Oz in the background. Two original rectangular cardboard 'box' dividers and also a smaller rectangular cardboard box containing a 'fluted' wooden barrel, with all six of the wooden dies, all four of the wooden tokens and the complete four-page instruction booklet and one-page supplement. The box lid sides (flaps) show a little wear and have been neatly repaired or strengthened, otherwise a near fine and complete example. With a contemporary (1921) pencil inscription on inside of box lid "George F. Hugel / Xmas 1921." A fabulous game board that measures 19" square when opened. This is a near fine example of the game, hard to find complete. Early issue with the cover illustration repeated on the game board (board copyrighted 1921) and with side panels of the box lid measuring 1 inch in depth but with wooden dies instead of the earliest pewter pieces. The Wonderful Game of Oz was a noteworthy example of Oz promotional merchandise, an Oz-themed board game manufactured by Parker Brothers. It was first sold to the public in 1921 and remained on the market until at least 1939. The playing boar … [Click Below for Full Description]

Mr. French was the first friend I made after coming to Chicago ten years ago, and was one of the few men who looked over, through and beyond the crude, outer covering of ignorance which dominated my personality, and became my friend on account of that which he saw lying dormant in my soul, awaiting the awakening hand of time and experience. Much of the best I have written was inspiried by suggestions from Mr. French, given in ordinary conversation, out of his own rich fund of knowledge. Presented to Parliament by Command of His Majesty
London: His Majesty's Stationary Office, 1921. Rare collection of original documents relating to the Palestine Question 1917-1947. Octavos, 3 volumes, unbound. Scarce and desirable. With the failure of the Anglo-American Committee of Inquiry in 1946, the British government requested the General Assembly of the United Nations to form a special committee to investigate the Palestine problem. The United Nations Special Committee on Palestine (UNSCOP) arrived in Palestine on 15 June 1947. The Arab Higher Committee believed UNSCOP to be pro-Zionist, and so boycotted proceedings, although some members of the AHC did meet the committee in a private capacity. While UNSCOP was in Palestine, the SS Exodus arrived in Haifa with Jewish Displaced Persons seeking to illegally immigrate to Palestine, and some have stated that it was this that changed the UN's outlook to support the creation of the state of Israel. UNSCOP's final recommendations delivered on 3 September 1947 at Geneva, supported the termination of the Mandate, with a majority of committee members recommending the partition of Palestine into two separate states, and a minority favouring a federal union with Jerusalem as its capital. Having originally boycotted UNSCOP, the Arab Higher Committee must have realised that there would have been only a very small window of opportunity between the Geneva meeting and the General Assembly vote to present their case, and so compiled the present lot. Published on 1 October 1947, it contains 46 different documents, 'Includ[ing] the texts of correspondence, memoranda and notes submitted … [Click Below for Full Description]
