RADIGUET, Raymond
Paris: Éditions de la Galerie Simon [Kahnweiler](1921). 28pp. The precocious writer's first work, which was published when he was only 18 years old. Les Pélican, one of Kahnweiler's most elegant publications, is a two-act satirical play accompanied by Laurens' whimsical, cubist illustrations which capture the absurdist tone of the play. The play was performed for the first time on May 24, 1921 at the Théâtre Michel in Paris to much acclaim. Radiguet, a true enfant terrible, was a protege of Jean Cocteau until his untimely death in 1923 at the age of 19. Very good in custom full blue morocco binding, marbled end papers, with original paper cover mounted at rear. Number 80 of 100 printed copies on Holland laid paper, signed by Radiguet and Laurens. Includes 7 original engravings (one of the tipped in front cover and 2 full page) by the French sculptor and illustrator Henri Laurens (1885-1954). [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy]

Winslow, Arizona, etc., 1921. Softcover. Very Good. Oblong folio. Measuring 11.75" x 7.25". Limp leather wallet-style binding with snaps. Contains 246 gelatin silver prints inserted into corner mounts. Most photos measure between 2" x 5.25" and 3" x 5.25". A fair amount are captioned either in ink on the photo or on small neatly cut sheets of white paper pasted on. Album is good or better: soundly bound but the leather of the backstrip and its overlapping fold at the foredge are perished; internally fine, photos are fine. An exceptionally talented amateur photographer created this album of remarkably crisp images, creating a visual feast of Arizona in the early 20th Century. The photographer appears to be from Winslow and there are numerous street and birds-eye views of the town around 1920, showing many buildings, signage, and the local populace. Other Winslow shots include parades, uniformed school children performing calisthenics, and a six-shot series of when the circus came to town. The album also includes leisure activities, with camping trips, images of hunting and fishing, and breathtaking views of "The Badlands" and the George Hubbard ranch. Also present are a few shots in Phoenix at the Capitol building, some on the campus of the University of Arizona, and an excellent shot of Shriners crowding a street in downtown Tucson. Additionally showing are street scene in Springerville and another show showing billowing smoke escaping the stacks of a Flagstaff lumber mill. Seventeen images show action at football games, the players fitted with leather helmets. About h … [Click Below for Full Description]

Einstein, Albert (1879-1955
Julius Springer, 1921. First Edition. Einstein, Albert. GEOMETRIE UND ERFAHRUNG. [Geometry and Experience] [PP.121-131]. Julius Springer, Berlin, 1921. Erweiterte Fassung des Festvortrages gehalten an der Preussischen Akademie der Wissenschaften zu Berlin am 27. Januar 1921. 8VO., 20PP. With 2 text illustrations. Original printed cream wrapper. First Edition. Weil 115. HBS52699. At 1921 at the Prussian Acedemy's commemorative session honoring Frederick the Great, founder of the Academy, Einstein delivered this lecture in which he summed up his views on the geometrization of physics and relativity and the relation of mathematics to the external world. Here he gave his famous answer to the puzzling question of why mathematics should be so well adapted to describing the external world: "Insofar as the Laws of Mathematics refer to the external world, they are not certain; and insofar as they are certain, they do not refer to reality" [D.B.S. Vol. 4, p. 330]. A fine copy. This is a mature work of Einstein, published when he was 42 years old, and in the year he received the Nobel Prize in Physics. [Attributes: First Edition]

Original printed wrappers. NEAR MINT CONDITION. A fine fresh example (small pencil mark to upper wrapper) of THIS RARE PAPER!! - ."Although Einstein could not accept Weyl's theory as a physical theory, he cherished "its courageous mathematical construction" and thought intensively about its conceptual foundation. This becomes clear from his paper "On a complement at hand of the bases of general relativity" of 1921. In it, he raised the question whether it would be possible to generate a geometry just from the conformal invariance of Equation without use of the conception "distance", i.e., without using rulers and clocks. He then embarked on conformal invariants and tensors of gauge-weight 0, and gave the one formed from the square of Weyl's conformal curvature tensor" Hubert, F.M. As far as the invitation to the party is concerned, I am sorry to say that I will be away on home at the time and so will be unable to attend. Xt) Greenberg, Uri Zvi. Illustrations by Henryk Berlewi
Varshe [Warsaw] : Literatur-Fond Baym Farayn Fun Yidishe Literatn Un Zshurnalistn In Varshe, 1921. Original illustrated paper wrappers with cover design by Chaim Wolf Weintraub 4to (large), 85 pages. Includes Berlewi’s frontis portrait of the author (used as the feature illustration in the YIVO Encyclopedia’s article on Greenberg). In Yiddish. Futur Anterieur Nr 210. First published in Lvov [Lemberg] in 1921, this beautiful 2nd edition was produced with accompanying illustration by leading modernist artist Henryk Berlewi. Greenberg (1896–1981) was a Hebrew and Yiddish poet, essayist and journalist. He "was a trailblazer of radical modernism in both Hebrew and Yiddish literatures, one of the leaders of the Revisionist Zionist movement (from 1930), and a member of the first Israeli Knesset .in 1921 Grinberg joined a group of radical Yiddish modernists that called itself Di Khalyastre (The Gang). Proclaiming its expressionistic poetics, the group also espoused a revolutionary and avowedly ‘rough,’ loud, and contrarian self-image. The times called for an art that would eschew aesthetic harmony in its search for a direct and unadorned externalization of nightmarish experiences through explosive diction. Traditional poetic concepts and devices were replaced by formlessness, abrasive sound, free verse, and nonreferential, ‘exaggerated’ figurative language. Grinberg soon became one of the leaders of the group, producing a grand scale poema, or a long sequence of poems, in which the weltanschauung of the new poetry was expressed in an intensely personal and yet universal philosophic … [Click Below for Full Description]
