Pronk.The first edition of this rhymed topography in the style of Willinks Amsterdamsche Buitensingel, or Van Winter's Amstelstroom. The author takes us on a walk through 18th century Hoorn (Noord-Holland, the Netherlands).Half leather with marbled boards, 5 raised bands to the spine, gilt decoration and lettering.Cover condition: Poor: spine heavily damaged, covers quite scuffed and worn, rear board uncovered.Inside condition: Fair: lacking two of the plates (both folding), one plate loose, binding weak, intermittent small stains.Biography: This seems to be the only work by this author.Cornelis Pronk (Amsterdam 1691 - 1759) was a Dutch (miniature)painter and draughtsman. He studied under Jan van Houten and Arnold Boonen. He was mainly known for his detailed and precise topographical paintings. He became the founder of a new school of topographical painting, and had Abraham de Haen, Jan de Beijer, and others as students. He was one of the collaborators who supplied work for Isaak Tirion's publication Verheerlykt Nederland.The engraver Jan Goeree (Middelburg 1670 - Amsterdam 1731) was the son of book dealer Willem Goeree. He soon moved to Amsterdam with his father. He studied painting under De Lairesse, but was, in the end, mainly known for his engravings.
