Textus Biblie cum Glosa ordinaria (Vol. I only of VI)
[Basel: Froben & Petri für Amerbach] 1506 - This volume of the Textus Biblia contains the first five books of the Old Testament (the Pentateuch). The complete Bible is in six volumes (sometimes found with a seventh [Index] volume) printed between 1506 and 1508. The text, in Latin, is commentary by Nicholas de Lyra (1270-1349), Matthew Doring (fl. 1469), Paul of Burgos (1351-1435), et al., printed in two columns to the page with the bible text in the center to form a third column. 9 ½ in. x 13 ½ in. 377 leaves (754 pp.). Illustrated with woodcuts and initials. Marbled end-papers. Beautifully rebound in dark brown leather with six raised bands, gilt designs, and gilt titling on black label on the spine. Leaves 368 to end (377) show worming with damage to text; small worm holes practically throughout with little damage to text. Light damp staining to early pages and to late pages. Some early pages have manuscript notes in ink in the margins, and the title page has an ink notation which we read as "Nichola de Lyra floruit A.D. 1319." A beautiful example of early printing by three of the famous Basel printers: Johan Froben, Johann Amerbach, and Adam Petri. The book weighs 6 ¾ lbs. Postage may be extra on this item. [Attributes: Hard Cover]
