Fashion Aid at the Royal Albert Hall. 05/11/1981. Mick Jagger and Jerry Hall with David Bailey.

745 x 520mm. Giclée Print using Archival pigment inks on Hahnemüle Fine Art Pearl 285gsm paper. Limited edition of 10 numbered copies signed by the photographer. Alan Davidson is a press photographer based in London for more than 30 years, Alan has photographed the rich, the famous, the before-they-were-famous to those that have fallen from grace. Going through his vast archive, with new treasures found within the old brown manilla envelopes, reads like a who's who of the great and good (and the very bad) of London society. Cinema stars rub shoulders with pop stars, royalty with politicians. Working from the late 1960s to the present day Alan remembers the days before celebrities became surrounded by 30 young publicists and before there were 50 photographers at every event you went to, allowing him to take intimate and relaxed portraits, unlike the anodyne syndicated press shots of today.

North Hills 1981, Bird & Bull. Quarter morocco leather over Chiyogami boards, 102p., 2 b.w. illustrations, 33 woodblock color samples + 8 Washi paper samples.** WITH DATED AUTHOR'S LETTER & SIGNED PRESENTATION TO THOMAS K. TINDALE & SON * *** *** FIRST & ONLY LIMITED EDITION OF 250 HAND NUMBERED COPIES WITH ACTUAL WASHI [HANDMADE] JAPANESE PAPER SAMPLES THE CONTENTS:. This stunning monograph consists of four essays by Henry Morris, the eminent fine press publisher and printer of the BIRD & BULL press. Henry Morris essays express his love of Japanese Washi [handmade paper], with tribute essays: 1. LITERATURE OF JAPANESE PAPERMAKING 2. DARD HUNTER'S CHIYOGAMI AND KIMONO PATTERN COLLECTION 3. JAPANESE SCREEN PAPERS 4. WESTERN ACCOUNTS OF JAPANESE PAPERMAKING 1. LITERATURE OF JAPANESE PAPERMAKING: In the first essay Morris discusses the his observations on the Thomas K. Tindale book: the HAND MADE PAPERS OF JAPAN, and states: "...Tindale's THE HAND MADE PAPERS OF JAPAN, is unquestionably one of the finest studies yet done on the subject...there was nothing that could compare with it. Tindale includes specimens of 8th and 9th century Japanese papers that are not to be found elsewhere, and is a magnificent production in every way..." see p.11. 2. DARD HUNTER'S CHIYOGAMI & KIMONO PATTERN COLLECTION: This is an important and special essay on Japanese Washi [handmade papers]. The collection of papers were brought back from Japan by Dard Hunter's father in 1933. This collection consisted of four-hundred sheets of Chiyogami [Japanese decorated paper], ca. 38 x 51 cm.. The trip also resulted in his superb pioneer study: "A PAPERMAKING PILGRAIMAGE TO JAPAN, KOREA AND CHINA," published in 1936. see p.38. Note: Please check with us we may have it in stock. This work uses actual samples collected, studied, and used by Dard Hunter senior, in the most eminent paper scholar, and famous author of many books on handmade papers. A beautiful book, with Japanese woodblock printed Kyo Tatazomegami paper sides. With 15 full page paper samples tipped in. The Chiyogami paper samples consist of 33 different paper samples tipped. Also two actual Kimono pattern design swatches on paper tipped in from 1846 & 1850. Superbly printed on Frankfurt paper by the Bird & Bull fine press. Brilliantly hand-bound with leather spine and corners by Gray Parrot, with original prospectus tipped-in. THE BIRD & BULL PRESS: WHO WAS HENRY MORRIS, FOUNDER, PRINTER & PUBLISHER OF THE BIRD AND BULL FINE PRESS: In 1958, "Morris started Bird and Bull, one of America's oldest private presses...as an outlet for his new-found interest in hand papermaking -an interest sparked by a piece of fifteenth-century paper...his strong interest in the art and history of handmade paper has resulted in a variety of books on Western, Japanese, and Chinese papermaking..." Quoted from comments by "Jane Rodgers Siegel, from the 2008 American Printing History Association's ceremony presenting Henry Morris with an award for his distinguished contribution to the study, recording, preservation or dissemination of printing history." Sadly, BIRD & BULL fine press closed in 2003. Henry Morris, publisher & printer retired in 2013. WHO WAS DARD HUNTER: William Joseph "Dard" Hunter [1883-1966] was an American authority on printing, paper, and papermaking, especially by hand, using the tools and craft of four centuries prior. Hunter produced two hundred copies of his book Old Papermaking, preparing every aspect of the book himself: he wrote the text, designed and cast the type, did the typesetting, handmade the paper, and printed and bound the book. A display at the Smithsonian Institution that appeared with his work read, "In the entire history of printing, these are the first books to have been made in their entirety by the labors of one man." He also wrote Paper making by Hand in America [1950], a similar but larger undertaking.          Cujo #578 of 750 Signed Limited Editions in slipcase

New York: Mysterious Press(1981). #578 of 750 copies of this signed limited edition, SIGNED by Stephen King on the limitation page. Fine book in maroon colored cloth with gold gilt lettering and design. It is tight, straight, clean and the text and page edges are squeaky clean and the gilt and cloth as new. The clear acetate dustjacket is also Fine with no tears, chips or wear, as is the slipcase in Fine condition. The clear dustjacket is on the book in the image with the book in the slipcase. Made into a classic horror film, though this is one time the 'bad guy' (poor sick Cujo) is just as sympathetic a character as are the humans caught in a horrid situation. The book's ending is way better than the movie's IMHO since the movie concentrated primarily on shock effect. The trade edition of the book was published by Viking Press in 1981 also, and the movie was produced in 1983. ; 9-3/8" x 6-1/4"; 319 pages; Signed by Author, 10, 24, 20, F/F

Without DJ, as issued. Presents Robert Rauschenberg's "Photos In + Out City Limits: Boston". The great artist's collection of black-and-white photographs on Boston. It is the partial fulfillment of his 30-year-old wish to photograph the entire United States, a project he never completed. Showcases his unique approach to photography as a process of discovery, selection, and assemblage of objects from everyday life. One of the least well-known facts about Rauschenberg is that he began his career as a photographer. He makes no distinction between his photography and his painting, and he brings the same acute eye to both. The photographs, like the paintings, are formally rigorous, sensuous, and piercing. His celebrated method of appropriating found images and objects to capture the fabric, tempo, and "feel" of modern life is photographically-inspired and characterizes his large body of work. The idea of appropriation is not unique to Rauschenberg. It is a central tenet of Surrealism and continues to be the latter Movement's enduring legacy. What makes Rauschenberg's work unique is the way he has "set in motion an interplay of shapes in which the human form is integrated to a rigorous yet flamboyant sense of design, pictures in which art and real life coincide" (Pontus Hulten). "A protean genius who showed America that all of life could be open to art. Rauschenberg didn't give a fig for consistency or curating his reputation; his taste was always facile, omnivorous, and hit-or-miss, yet he had a big-ness of soul and a richness of temperament that recalled Walt Whitman" (Robert Hughes). "Mine is the need to be where it will always never be the same again. Photography is the most direct communication of non-violent contacts" (Robert Rauschenberg). An absolute "must-have" title for Robert Rauschenberg collectors. This copy is very prominently and beautifully signed in pencil by Robert Rauschenberg. It is signed directly on the page itself, not on a tipped-in page. This title is a great art photography book. This is one of very few such signed copies of the First Edition/First Printing still available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright, a pristine beauty. Please note: Many copies available online have major flaws because the color white soils very easily. According to dealers who knew him, Rauschenberg basically stopped signing books in the 1990's. Signed copies still available online are vintage, not recent, and very few. A rare signed copy thus. 45 tritone plates. One of the greatest artists of the 20th century. A fine collectible copy.          The Ultimate Good Luck

Houghton Mifflin, Boston 1981 - His second novel, a hard-boiled thriller involving American expatriates in Mexico. Signed by the author. Partly because of the weak construction at the rear hinge, which tends to crack, this title has become harder to locate, particularly in fine condition, than his first book. This is a fine copy in a fine dust jacket that is folded a bit offcenter such that the spine lettering rounds the front joint. [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy; Hard Cover]
