Rara seconda edizione accresciuta. Cfr. Iccu; Melzi, Dizionario opere anonime, II, p. 444; Edizioni giuridiche antiche in lingua italiana, II,2, p. 750, ove si menziona come reale luogo di stampa Coira, Società tipografica..

        Falco Peregrinus (or Duck Hawk)

Nozeman, Cornelius 1770 - A magnificent mid-to late 18th century copper engraving of a Peregrine Falcon, FALCO PEREGRINUS, in old colour drawn by the famous Dutch artist Christian Sepp and published by Cornelius Nozeman (1721-1786) in Nederlandischen Vogelen in Amsterdam in 1789. Nozeman was a minister of the Dutch Remonstrant church and an ornithologist who provide the inspiration for the finest Dutch work on ornithology and one of the greatest of all time. The work was a unique collaboration of two Dutch masters and a project of huge scope and ambition, taking over 60 years to complete. Nozeman’s work, which he couldn’t finished, became the first comprehensive account of the avifauna of Holland and was the most expensive book for sale in Holland at the time. The renowned engraver and artist Christiaan Sepp drew the illustrations and Cornelius Nozeman wrote the text for the first two volumes. After the deaths of Nozeman and Sepp, volumes 3 and 4 were published in 1797 and 1829, respectively. All four volumes published by Jan Sepp, the son of Christian Sepp in 1829. The peregrine falcon (Falco peregrinus), also known as the peregrine, and historically as the duck hawk in North America, is a widespread bird of prey in the family Falconidae. A large, crow-sized falcon, it has a blue-grey back, barred white underparts, and a black head and “moustache”. As is typical of bird-eating raptors, peregrine falcons are sexually dimorphic, females being considerably larger than males. The peregrine is renowned for its speed, reaching over 322 km/h (200 mph) during its characteristic hunting stoop (high speed dive), making it the fastest member of the animal kingdom. According to a National Geographic TV programme, the highest measured speed of a peregrine falcon is 389 km/h (242 mph) Very good condition, with a strong plate mark, thick paper; measures 440 x 340 mm, (plate).

Additis adnotationibus quibus plurimarum plantarum vires indicantur.

typis Simonis Tissi,, Belluni, 1770 - Cm. 29,5, pp. (4) 400. [Attributes: Soft Cover]
